San Carlos Living ClockTower Music + Destira

Leotards

In March, I chat with Brian Kimmel of ClockTower Music and Jen Atkinson of Destira Leotards.

Laurel Street fixture ClockTower Music started as a 100 square-foot store in the bottom of a Half Moon Bay ClockTower. Owner Brian Kimmel, who bought the store in 1994 from his Dad, started working there when he was 12. Decades later, ClockTower evolved into a retail and teaching center with a vibrant community of musicians.

Gymnastics-apparel company Destira began in LA when owner Jen Atkinson’s mother saw a need for fashionable, comfortable leotards. Years after Jen joined the business, she moved to San Carlos with her husband. (They now have three daughters at San Carlos Charter Learning Center.) Migrating Destira to San Carlos came shortly thereafter. They still manufacture everything in LA, but in San Carlos, Destira found a home.

Read more about how Brian and Jen adapted their San Carlos businesses during the pandemic and their plans moving forward.
